By listening to people's responses when asked how they're feeling, it's quite simple to assess how bad their pain, relationships, outlook on life and progression in healing has been. 'My pain? It's not awful' is a common response I hear. 'How am I doing? Not bad', people often reply to me in a hopeful tone. 'Not bad?' I respond, 'does this mean you're not good?' People seem to be surprised by my remark. Speaking with negativity encourages us to view experiences in a negative light. Why would you compare yourself to something bad?
Then there is this noticeable shift in language that again is subconscious. This usually happens by their 3rd visit with me. They walk into my treatment room with a little bounce in their step; head held slightly higher. Again, I ask them how they are. 'Pretty good!' Pardon me? You're speaking in a double-positive? This is where I see huge changes in healing. They are unaware that they are feeling positive; hopeful; happy. Their language changes. Descriptions and viewpoints on life, stressors and relationships suddenly all seem manageable.
Your word choices may be subconscious in that moment, but acknowledge your immediate response as a lesson to how you view yourself, your reality and your health. Wouldn't it be nice to feel 'good' and 'not bad'?

To get out of these cycles of disappointment and negativity?
